Membership, Circulation

Library Membership
All full time, part-time and postgraduate students become library members when registering with the Faculty of Arts. Other users are issued with the membership card after having paid the fees in any of the departmental libraries. Foreign students have to apply for library membership by filling in a User Registration Form for Foreign Citizens, there are no additional admission, registration or loan fees to be paid. By registering in one departmental library one automatically becomes a member of all 18 departmental libraries of the Central Humanities Library. Student ID serves as a library card and is valid in all libraries of the University of Ljubljana (UL), in the National and University Library (NUK) and the Central Technological Library (CTK). Exchange students are required to return all borrowed library materials and settle all outstanding debts in OHK FFLJ by the end of their exchange period.

Borrowing materials
A valid student ID or a library card is needed for borrowing library materials. A student/library card is not transferable to another person.

- Search for bibliographic information in the Union Bibliographic catalogue (COBISS/OPAC) or in the local catalogue: COBISS → Enter COBISS/OPAC→ Local databases of libraries --> Library: FFLJ, choose the departmental library;
- Write out the entire shelfmark, located at the bottom of the entry, e.g.
Germanistika 886.3 CANKAR Ivan Ward of Our Lady
- Present the shelfmarks to the librarian at the loan desk.
- The librarian will bring you the requested items and scan the barcodes. The due dates due are recorded on the
   loan slip.
- For the materials which have not yet been provided with a barcode, a borrowing slip has to be filled in.

Loan period, renewals, reservations

Loan period for books is usually one month or two weeks but departmental libraries can set their own rules regarding the loan period depending on the type of materials. Periodicals, handbooks, seminar papers and undergraduate, masters and doctoral theses cannot be borrowed for home use.

- Loan period can be renewed in person, by telephone, e-mail, or by using My Library account on COBISS/OPAC ().
- Users can subscribe to expiry notices to be received via e-mail or SMS 3 days before expiration of the loan period.
- Materials currently on loan can be reserved in person, by telephone, mail or e-mail.
- Materials from all departmental libraries can also be returned by leaving them in the drop box (in front of Room 10 on the ground floor).
- To recall overdue materials users will receive a written reminder. Overdue fines and reminder costs will be charged according to the valid price list.

Reference material loan
Reference materials can be used in the departmental libraries and in the Common Reading Room. They have to be returned on the same day either to the departmental library during office hours or left in the drop box.

- The Common Reading Room (Room 015) in the basement is open Monday to Friday between 7.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m. and Saturday between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.

- Users are responsible for the borrowed materials. Damaged (torn, highlighted, marked) or lost materials must be replaced or damages paid according to the valid price list.

Lending libraries

Departmental libraries are virtually connected by the COBISS system. Some of  them have their holdings arranged by running number and held in closed stacks (closed access libraries), others have their collections classified by UDC or other classification systems denoting various subjects or fields of knowledge with at least partial free access shelving.

Reference libraries, information services and reading rooms

Reference library materials of the departmental libraries are for library use only. Each departmental library provides information services for its users. Some of the libraries have their own reading rooms, there is also a Common Reading Room located in the basement.

My Library service

Upon registration at the library users define a password for My Library which enables access to personal loan transactions (renewals or requests), reservations, e-notifications settings, and password changes. Membership card no. required for login is either student ID or library card number. Also available are various notifications to be received per e-mail or SMS (about forthcoming expiry of loan period, availability of reserved material, reservation expiry, membership expiry, outstanding debts, and general library notifications).

Interlibrary loan

Apart from lending materials held by OHK to other libraries, OHK provides ILL services for its users by obtaining materials and documents from any library in Slovenia and from numerous foreign libraries and document suppliers. The ILL order form has to be filled out. The service is charged according to a valid price list.

E-mail address: illfflj@ff.uni-lj.si, here is the link to ILL order form.

Internet

Internet access is available on public PCs in libraries and halls at the faculty. Access to Eduroam wireless internet network is available to all UL students (including exchange students) and staff members.
