Course Description

Aims and Specific Competences:

The course fosters the students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge gained to the analysis and discussion of individual literary texts from the above mentioned period.

The course enhances the students’ ability to classify works according to the content and formal characteristics in the works of old American literature between realism and 1920.

Content:

  • The course provides an introduction to the history of basic literary movements and works from the period between realism and 1920.
  • The course includes an analysis and interpretation of selected literary works within the given period.
  • The course offers a survey of the influences of the old American literature of the given period to world literature and vice versa.

Written exam.

Grading scale of 6-10 (pass) and 1-5 (fail), in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana and with the examination system of the Faculty of Arts.
