Course Description

Basic linguistic concepts and English grammatical linguistic terminology. Hierarchy of linguistic units.  Sentence, clause, phrase, word, morpheme. Parts of speech (word classes). Detailed analysis of individual parts of speech (noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb and preposition) and related grammatical categories. Role of individual parts of speech in phrase formation. English-specific morphological phenomena and processes, which are a source of difficulties for Slovene learners of English due to the differences in the linguistic systems of English and Slovene.

A written test during the semester (20%) and the final exam (80%). Due to the course structure (active class participation) the student can sit the test once only.

Grading scale of 6-10 (pass) and 1-5 (fail), in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana and with the examination system of the Faculty of Arts.
