Admission Requirements

To enrol in the second-degree single-subject English language study programme, one needs to have completed:

  1. the first-degree English language study programme evaluated with 180 CP;
  2. any other first-degree study programme evaluated with 180 CP;
  3. the first-degree study programme evaluated with 240 CP;
  4. pre-Bologna study programme of the English language and literature;
  5. other pre-Bologna study programmes.

Candidates under 2) above can enrol in the second-degree single-subject English language study programme under conditions listed in a) and b) below.

Candidates under 3) above can enrol in the second-degree single-subject English language study programme under conditions listed in c) and d) below.

Candidates under 4) above can enrol in the second-degree single-subject English language study programme under conditions listed in e) below.

Candidates under 5) above can enrol in the second-degree single-subject English language study programme under conditions listed in d) below. In this case, up to 10 CP are recognized depending on the obligations carried out in the first-degree study programme.

a)      Students who have completed a first-degree foreign language study programme (180 CP) must additionally gain another 30 CP from the first-degree single-subject English language programme. The obligations (i.e., the bridge exams) are determined individually by the members of the board appointed by the Head of the Department of English depending on the completed study programme.

b)      Students who have completed any other first-degree study programme (180 CP) must additionally gain another 60 CP from the first-degree single-subject English language programme. The obligations (i.e., the bridge exams) are determined individually by the members of the board appointed by the Head of the Department of English depending on the completed study programme.

c)      Students who have completed a first-degree foreign language study programme (240 CP) must additionally gain another 30 CP from the first-degree single-subject English language study programme. The obligations (i.e., the bridge exams) are determined individually by the members of the board appointed by the Head of the Department of English depending on the completed study programme.

d)      Students who have completed any other first-degree study programme (240 CP) must additionally gain another 60 CP from the first-degree single-subject English language study programme. The obligations (i.e., the bridge exams) are determined individually by the members of the board appointed by the Head of the Department of English depending on the completed study programme.

e)      Students who have completed the pre-Bologna study programme of the English language and literature can enrol in the second-degree study programme. The fulfilled study obligations are recognized up to 60 CP. The decision about the recognition of fulfilled obligations is made individually by the members of the board appointed by the Head of the Department of English.

In accordance with Article 121 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana, admission requirements are also met by a candidate who has completed equivalent education abroad. The equivalence of education gained abroad is determined in the process of recognition of education acquired abroad for the purposes of continuing education.

If enrolment is to be restricted, the candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

For candidates under 1):

  • average grade in the first-degree study programme: 35%;
  • degree examination grade: 30%;
  • English language average grade: 15%;
  • English literature and culture average grade: 15%;
  • bibliography, awards and special achievements: 5%.

For candidates under 2) and 3):

  • average grade in the first-degree study programme: 25%;
  • BA dissertation grade or degree examination grade: 20%;
  • bridge exams average grade – 10-60 CT: 50%;
  • bibliography, awards and special achievements: 5%.

For candidates under 4):

  • average grade in the undergraduate study programme: 35%;
  • BA dissertation grade: 30%;
  • English language average grade: 15%;
  • English literature and culture average grade: 15%;
  • bibliography, awards and special achievements: 5%.

For candidates under 5):

  • average grade in the undergraduate study programme: 25%;
  • BA dissertation grade: 20%;
  • bridge exams average grade – 10–60 CT: 50%;
  • bibliography, awards and special achievements: 5%.
