Admission Requirements

Requirements for admission to the single-subject university study programme of English Studies are set out in accordance with Article 115 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana.

To enrol in the undergraduate study programme, one needs to

a) have passed the general upper secondary school-leaving external examination (i.e., the matura [term used hereafter]),

b) have passed the vocational matura in any secondary-school programme, and the examination in the subject of English. If the candidate has already fulfilled the course requirements for this subject within the vocational matura, a pass is required in any matura subject. However, the subject selected must not be one of those which the candidate has already taken and passed within the framework of their final vocational matura examination;

c) have completed any four-year secondary-school programme prior to 1 June 1995.

In accordance with Article 121 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana, admission requirements have also been met by any candidate who has completed equivalent education abroad. The suitability of such education is ascertained in the process of recognizing education gained abroad for the purpose of continuing one’s education. The matter is dealt with by a person thus authorized by the University of Ljubljana; as to the content side, the formal recognition of education gained abroad is decided upon by the Senate of a given member of the University or the University itself, in accordance with Articles 77 and/or 47 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana.

If enrolment is to be restricted, the candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

For candidates under a):

  1. Overall achievement in the matura – 20%;
  2. Overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years - 10%;
  3. Grade in the English language in the 3rd year – 20%;
  4. Grade in the English language in the 4th year – 20%;
  5. Grade in the English language in the matura – 30%.

For candidates under b):

  1. Overall achievement in the vocational matura – 20%;
  2. Overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years – 10%;
  3. Grade in the English language in the 3rd year – 20%;
  4. Grade in the English language in the 4th year – 20%;
  5. Grade in the matura subject – 30%.

For candidates under c):

  1. Overall achievement in the final examination – 20%;
  2. Overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years – 10%;
  3. Grade in the English language in the 3rd year – 20%,
  4. Grade in the English language in the 4th year – 20%;
  5. Achievement in the English language in the final examination – 30%.

There will be a total of 50 admissions to the first year of the academic single-subject study programme in English Studies.
